Ribbon Save
What is Ribbon Save Technology?
Ribbon Save
Technology, as developed by
Toshiba TEC, permits a thermal transfer ribbon to be lifted away from a
thermal transfer label when the ribbon is not in use.
Toshiba TEC printers equipped with ribbon save begin to save ribbon after
.8” of quiet (blank) space on the label. Once the ribbon save has lifted the
thermal transfer ribbon away from the thermal transfer label, the label advances
and the ribbon is held motionless by the ribbon save. The thermal transfer
ribbon is released by the ribbon save when the quiet space ends and the label
requires more ink from the thermal transfer ribbon. Imagine an apparel label
used for a pair of socks. The label is normally 11” long with 2” of text and 9”
of quiet space. Using a Toshiba TEC printer equipped with ribbon save could
save a customer 7” of ribbon per label. The example below shows a 9” label
printed on a Toshiba TEC printer with only 3” of ribbon having been used.
The bottom line is...ribbon save saves money.
